For the “lighthouses of the world” brief, we were asked to immerse ourselves in the history of a lighthouse and draw upon our findings to develop a typographic outcome. I chose to research the lighthouse of Alexandria, as I grew up in Alexandria, hearing all about the lighthouse and its glory, but never truly learning about it in depth. Upon research, I learned about how the lighthouse of Alexandria laid the foundation and paved the way for other lighthouses. My concept revolves around celebrating the absent and embracing one’s rich heritage. My outcome's goal Is to educate Egypt’s future generations about the rich history of the lighthouse that once stood the grounds of Pharos Island, in a fun and stimulating way. I found that the best way to do so was through an accordion book, Explaining the tale of the lighthouse and how it came to be, in a colour-coded era system to stimulate the viewers’ photographic memory. I believe that this medium combines a good amount of interactivity all while maintaining its educational integrity.
